moto2 / Bitter Australia for Kent and Nocco
The two riders of Leopard Racing team were not able to cross the finish line of the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island.
A bitter weekend and no points for Leopard Racing Team in Moto2. Despite the good conditions of Warm Up this morning and ending in eighth place, the Englishman Danny Kent could not cross the finish line, crashing with 3 laps from the checkered flag.
Kent had been strong all weekend in both the wet and the dry conditions and was extremely confident before the race. Dry conditions meant the race was a step into the unknown for everyone on the grid. Kent continued to pick off riders and was looking on course for a solid point scoring finish until disaster struck right at the end, Kent failing to finish another race.
A similar fate for his team-mate Alessandro Nocco, here in Australia who was called on to replace the injured Miguel Oliveira. The young rookie improved his pace from Qualifying in the race, but was forced to slow down as he encountered problems with his tyre and preferred to retire or risk the worst.
The two riders of Leopard Racing team will do it all again in seven days at the Sepang International Circuit for the Malaysian Grand Prix.
#52 Danny KENT:
“Not the way we wanted to finish the race, we were in the points and unfortunately we crashed out with only two laps to go. Even before that I started to feel a bit of chatter with the front end which we haven’t had all weekend, but that’s due to a lack of dry track time. Very unfortunate as again we leave with no points, We won’t give up, we’ll keep pushing at 100%. The good thing is we fly immediately to Malaysia and hopefully we can have a good weekend.”
#20 Alessandro NOCCO:
“My experience on the Moto2 is growing. Today I improved my own reference time by two seconds, but of course the bike changes as you push harder and must therefore take action. In the last laps the tyre had cooled down too much and I preferred to return to the box in order not to fall or be damaged.”
