moto2 / Fifth and seventh row for Oliveira & Kent

The Portuguese rider improved yet again and is confident for the race while the British is slowed by a crash early in the session.

A bittersweet Saturday for the Leopard Racing team at the Gran Premi de Catalunya, the seventh round of the 2016 World Championship. Danny Kent and Miguel Oliveira have faced many difficulties, especially in the decisive official qualifying session that decided the deployment of the grid on Sunday.

After the excellent start this morning, when he had closed the FP3 in eighth place overall, Danny Kent had to deal with a crash at Turn 5, minutes after the start of qualifying. A shame for the British rider, who had shown a vast improvement over yesterday thanks to the right choices in terms of suspension and setup.

The 21 year old from Chippenham managed to recover in the final minutes, closing the day with a 1’50.902 lap. Tomorrow, the outgoing World Champion Moto3 champion will have to give 100% for the whole race and attack.

There were improvements for Oliveira who was16th place in the rankings of FP3, after taking time to learn the new Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Miguel Oliveira has rolled up his sleeves at the decisive moment of qualifications, giving his maximum in the time attacck session. Tomorrow in the race the talent from Pragal will start from 15th on the grid thanks to his best lap time of 1’50.430.

Tomorrow at 09:10 Local Time (GMT +2) the riders will be back on track for 20 minutes of Warm Up before the lights go out at 12:20 Local Time for the seventh race of the 2016 Moto2 World Championship.

#44 Miguel OLIVEIRA – 15th (1’50.430):
“Today we had to learn the new layout. Sector 4 has been modified and as a result, the track became slower. Now it is more difficult to ride because there are more changes of direction. I am satisfied with today’s work, the weekend is going better than expected. Qualifying also started well, so much so that I improved by 0.6s. Now we analyze the data with the team, I think we can improve the bike further. I’m confident for the race.”

#52 Danny KENT – 21st (1’50.902):
“Of course I’m very disappointed we’re again down in 21st. I had a good feeling with the bike in the morning and we made a change on the front for Qualifying. It was only a small change but the feeling on the bike was completely different and I had a crash. We lost a lot of time with repairs and I had to go out and regain more confidence. I didn’t have enough laps and we’ve made the race hard for us.”
