moto2 / Fifth and sixth rows for Leopard Racing’s Moto2 team
Kent and Oliveira ready to fight hard from the fifth and sixth rows of the grid in Austria.
Saturday was a hard day for the Leopard Racing team at the Grand Prix von Osterreich, the tenth round of the Moto2 World Championship. On the Spielberg circuit, Danny Kent and Miguel Oliveira finally found ideal weather conditions today to push their Kalex machines, making the most of the data they collected while testing.
Now recovered and in perfect shape, Danny Kent made a positive long-run with hard rubber in the last of the morning’s free practice sessions, before running into a harmless crash with soft rubber. In the afternoon the Brit, thanks to a change to the front, managed to set a 1’30.129 lap , earning him 15th on the grid. For lovers of statistics, the Moto3 world champion tomorrow take to the track for 100th race of his career.
Oliveira was unable to confirm the feeling he had found on Friday but this morning the talent of Pragal showed a good feeling with the Austrian circuit, honing his Kalex for the race. In the decisive session of qualifying the Portuguese 21-year old suffered vibrations that prevented him pushing to the limit, ending 18th overall with a lap time of 1’30.308.
Tomorrow at 09:10 Local Time (GMT +2), the riders will be back on track for 20 minutes of warm-up before the lights go out at 12:20 Local Time for the tenth race of the 2016 Moto2 World Championship.
#52 Danny KENT – 15th (1’30.129):
“This weekend has been very up and down. We’ve had two good sessions inside the top ten but then we’ve also been unlucky. We had some small problems, we had a small crash this morning and that’s not what you need before Qualifying. You lose a little bit of confidence and to continue our bad luck we had some strange vibrations on the front end when we went out in Qualifying. We solved that but when we went out a different problem came up. It was a frustrating Qualifying, luckily we came in and made a change for the final eight minutes. I had a much better feeling with the bike, sadly I only did three fast laps with a bike I enjoyed riding, there’s a lot to improve tomorrow.”
#44 Miguel OLIVEIRA – 18th (1’30.308):
“This morning I was comfortable here with the bike, despite yesterday already feeling some small vibrations. Unfortunately, the problem became acute in Qualifying. We have to analyze what happened and why the first releases of the weekend had been positive. We will start further back tomorrow, but we will give my best as always.”
