moto3 / Joan Mir heads for Montemelo and home

The leader of the Moto3 class is out to put on a strong show in front of his fans by returning to the podium at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit. Belgian Livio Loi is determined to improve on the results of the start of the season.

The World Championship circus arrives at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which from Friday 9th to Sunday 11th will host the seventh round of the 2017 season. The Montmelò track, located about 30km from the city centre, is one of the longest on the entire MotoGP calendar. Opened in 1991, it is divided into five left hand corners and eight rights which alternate through the 4.7km circuit, with a straight measuring 1047 m.

Barcelona is home to Joan Mir, Palma de Mallorca’s talent comes to his fans with 108 points in the Moto3 championship, the result of 3 wins and 1 podium in the first 6 races. The 19-year-old Spanish rider is fired up after Mugello, where he finished seventh. It’s time to attack the podium in Montmelo.

Livio Loi, his team-mate, will surely be in battle: the Belgian, who has left the last three rounds dry and without points, arrives in Catalunya in search of reward. With the help of his crew he wants to find the right feeling with the front of his Honda NSF 250 RW on Friday, which would allow his weekend to grow and boost him into the top ten.

Montmelò evokes sweet memories for the Leopard Racing Team: in 2015, with Danny Kent (on his way to becoming World Champion) and the team scored a double podium thanks to the help of Efren Vazquez. Will Joan Mir and Livio Loi succeed in repeating their actions?
