moto3 / Joan Mir into the lion’s den

The leader of the Moto3 class heads for the Italian event after a strong third win in five races. Livio Loi is determined to get more points.

The World Championship Circus is coming to the Mugello Motor Show, a real “University of Racing’ that will host the sixth round of the 2017 season from Friday 2 to Sunday, June 4th.

Located in the heart of the Tuscan hills, about 30 km from Florence, the track is one of the most loved in the paddock. The layout consists of 6 curves to the left and 9 to the right, which wind along for 5.2 Km with a long straight of 1141 m. The Mugello circuit first hosted a Grand Prix in 1976 and since 1991 has been a fixed presence of the World Championship.

The Leopard Racing Team arrives in Italy with very high morale after another unmatched performance by Joan Mir. The 19-year-old Spaniard is continually putting pressure on his two direct rivals and his plans aren’t set to change.

After winning at the head of the race, Palma de Mallorca’s star further increased his lead on his pursuers, crossing the line with a third win in the five opening rounds, which rightfully gives him the leadership of the Moto3 class: this is the first time it has happened since Danny Kent (with Leopard Racing) in 2015, who went on to become World Champion.

The goal of the 2017 Championship is ambitious, as the feeling with its NSF 250 RW has grown steadily race-by-race and the Leopard Racing Team knows they have to stay focused and watch for the attacks of “local heroes” who know by the track well after racing here since they were infants.

Livio Loi comes with the same, concentrating on leaving behind the poor luck of Le Mans, “betrayed” by the second start in France. Hasselt’s 20-year-old has not lost his focus and is present here in Tuscany with renewed enthusiasm and all the positive indications that the previous race has given him in terms of performance. What can we expect Sunday in the race?
