cycling news / Leopard adds Gessner to 2018 roster

After the introduction of Leopard Pro Cycling’s first addition for 2018 last week, the Luxembourgish UCI Continental Team today announces the signing of yet another rider. Sprinter Konrad Gessner will be part of the 2018 roster, coming over from German outfit Rad-Net Rose Team.

“I chose Leopard because I really like their professional team structure.”

With the signing of Konrad Gessner, a 21-year-old German, Leopard Pro Cycling takes again a very talented rider into their ranks. Gessner, with a background in triathlon, really started showing his capabilities as of 2016 as a part of the German amateur team P&S Team Thüringen. During this breakthrough year, Gessner found himself multiple times back in the top ranks of the results sheets. No doubt that his performances at the Tour de Berlin are amongst his best, but his victories in the U23 edition of the Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn-Frankfurt really stood out the most. The youngster also took the sprint victory in Düsseldorf, one of the races in de German Bundesliga competition. At the U23 German Championships, Konrad only lost to Pascal Ackermann (now BORA-hansgrohe), before finishing sixth in the Elite version of the Nationals one week later.

This year, Gessner continued his development and really grabbed the attention of Leopard Pro Cycling. In his first year as a Continental rider, the German had results to be proud of. At the Tour de l’Avenir – the mini-Tour de France – he sprinted to third in the sixth stage after already taking three second places earlier in the year at the Tour de Normandie, Flèche du Sud and GP Doliny Baryczy. He already mixed in with the professional riders at Trofeo Palma (15th), Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen (10th) and the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro (22nd), emphasizing his talent. Being developed one more year, even improving his tactical behavior in deep finals and relying on his top speed, Leopard Pro Cycling is more than happy to go to bunch sprint finishes with Gessner in the team.

Konrad Gessner: “I chose Leopard because I really like their professional team structure. They offer me a very good racing program with a lot of races in Belgium and the Netherlands, which I always like. This racing schedule will definitely help me with my goal, becoming a pro rider. I am looking forward to meet all the new people and I expect that we will harmonize well as a team, so we can obtain great results together next season.”

Markus Zingen, Team Manager: “I am happy to welcome Konrad in our team as we have been keeping track of his development for a while. In his first season in a Continental team he collected more international experiences of which he will profit in the near future. I am sure that he learned a lot last year and that he is ready to deliver results in 2018. With our race calendar and our support, he will have many chances to prove himself, not only as a sprinter but he also has still a huge potential in the classic races.”
