tcr / Leopard Lukoil Team WRT to Hungaroring for a frontal assault

The TCR Europe series resumes this weekend at Budapest’s Hungaroring for rounds 7 and 8 with Leopard Lukoil Team’s Jean-Karl Vernay in 3rd position in the standing after Spa-Francorchamps’ domination.

Located less than 20 km northeast of Budapest, the Hungaroring is famed for hosting the first Formula One grand prix behind the old Iron Curtain in 1986. Ever-present on the F1 calendar since, the Hungaroring has also become a popular venue for world touring car racing. Resurfaced for 2016 with re-profiled kerbing to boot, the track blends tight turns and fast sweeps while its valley location makes for an initial descent before a climb back up to the high-speed Turn 4.

‘Jay Kay’ has already run on this track at the end of April for the WTCR Championship event. The Frenchman managed an impressive start, completing a triple Top 10 as he once again proved to be the best of the Audi entries. On this weekend the combination of BoP and Compensation Weight lists the Audi RS3 LMS as the heaviest car (1315kg).

Two Hungarian teams will take part in the event, M1RA and Zengő Motorsport; the young Spaniard Mikel Ancona will try to defend his 11-point margin ahead of Serbian Dušan Borković, while Leopard Lukoil Team WRT’s Vernay wants to further reduce his gap of 39 points.
