moto3 / Mir and Loi work hard on Friday at Silverstone
The leader of the Moto3 class and his teammate came to the fore on the first day of the British Grand Prix, improving in the second session and showing improvements in speed.
The MotoGP World Championship today put their wheels on track at the Silverstone Circuit, host of the British GP, the twelfth round of the 2017 season. Greeted by the sun and an unusual English climate (18°C air / 23°C ground), the young lions of the Moto3 class kicked the weekend into gear with the first free practice session, quickly lowering their reference times.
The Leopard Racing teams have started on the right foot, showing well early on with Joan Mir and a lightning-quick Livio Loi (228.3 km/h). The talent of Palma de Mallorca has come to England as the leader of the category, with 7 wins in the first 11 races of the season. Not least, the Belgian came to Silverstone galvanized by the good performance of the Red Bull Ring where he almost touched the podium.
In the afternoon, the temperatures rose (22°C air / 37°C ground) allowing the pilots cut their times further. In FP2, the young rider of the category fought hard to try and gain a slipstream, worth over a second here. The leader of the Moto3 class, Joan Mir, set an interesting 2’13.854, which could have been even lower if he had not been slowed down by his rival in the track. A small mistake in the lap deprived his team-mate Livio Loi of the opportunity to appear in the Top Ten. Both the Belgian and the Spanish riders remain both confident for tomorrow, with strong pace and a good plan.
Tomorrow, Saturday August 26th, the protagonists of the Moto3 class will be engaged in the third and last round of free practice, anticipating the official qualifying show.
#36 Joan MIR – 7th (2’13.854)
“It has been a positive day for us, we have worked hard on the bike and already come up with interesting solutions. Just a pity for the last lap in FP2. I had mounted the M tyre, but I was slowed down by a slow-moving rider. All-in-all I’m satisfied because we have a good pace and I feel comfortable with the bike.”
#11 Livio LOI – 17th (2’14.744)
“There were two pretty good Free Practices, we worked a lot. At the end I could not make the time of the day: I made a small mistake in the fast run, but we can be among the first because there is a margin. The bike is in place, there are only a few small changes.”
