moto3 / Mir out for Rookie of the Year title

The 19 year-old from Mallorca is up for the three-way battle for the Rookie of the Year title in the last race of the season at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia. Andrea Locatelli and Fabio Quartararo are determined to complete the season on a high and consolidate their position in the Championship.

After the triple Asian tour of October, the Moto3 World Championship returns to Europe for the final round of the 2016 season. As usual, the calendar ends at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Cheste, which will host the Grand Prix Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana.

4 km long, with nine left corners and five rights, the track first hosted a Grand Prix in 1999, the in 2002 it became the seat of the Grand Finale of the season.

For the fourth time in 2016, the paddock are back on Spanish soil, with the three runners of the Leopard Racing Team ready to challenge their opponents in the last race of the year. It will be an especially important and emotional round, especially for Joan Mir.

The 19 year old from Palma de Mallorca knows the track for his past in the CEV and will be engaged in the challenge with Italians Nicolò Bulega and Fabio Di Giannantonio for Rookie of the Year honours in 2016. The three riders arrive in Valencia covered by only six points: the last race is all about who can finish ahead, anything is still possible.

Keep an eye on Andrea Locatelli and Fabio Quartararo, both the running in Leopard Racing Team colours for the last time ahead of their passage to the intermediate Moto2 class. The Italian arrives in strong form from the podium at Phillip Island and a top five in Sepang, results that have projected him to ninth place overall in the standings.

A great performance of one of his favourite circuits would also allow Fabio Quartararo to enter the top ten, waving goodbye to Moto3 in the best way possible. The Sepang red flag denied him the joy of the podium: can he succeed in Valencia?
