moto3 / One day of testing for Mir and Loi
The two Leopard Racing team riders could only take advantage of one of the two days scheduled for testing. They will return to Jerez next week.
The World Championship is almost upon us and, after their baptism at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia, the Leopard Racing team returned yesterday to the track in Jerez de la Frontera for the second test of 2017.
Once at the Andalusian track, the team saw its programme slowed due to bad weather conditions, blewing away the second and last of two days of testing. Crew chiefs and riders therefore decided not to go out on track today, wishing not to risk anything and to instead save their energy.
It was a profitable Wednesday however for the Leopard Racing: despite a lack of grip, Joan Mir and Livio Loi took advantage of all the time available to them, lapping continuously until the afternoon, and putting on their score sheets 75 and 67 laps respectively with the 6th and the 9th best time overall.
Testing continues next week, on March 1st, again here at Jerez Circuit.
Joan MIR: 75 laps, 6th (1’47.672)
“I am very happy with the day of testing, we worked well and we tried some interesting solutions. Too bad that we could not get on track today because of the bad conditions. It would not have allowed us to draw any conclusion. We prefer to work in the box and prepare ourselves better on the next test. Yesterday we were dedicated to development and I found myself getting on well with the Honda. There is still work to do, but I’m sure I can improve.”
Livio LOI: 67 laps, 9th (1’47.923)
“We are really happy with the day, we tried different things, so much so that at the end of the day we made a big step forward compared to the first run of the morning. I feel more and more in tune with the team, I’m sure that from now on we can do better, because the direction taken is the right one. I could get back in the saddle right now!”
