moto3 / Productive Friday in the Leopard Racing box at Mugello

Teammates Joan Mir and Livio Loi were committed and determined in the first two free practice sessions of the 2017 Grand Prix of Italy, ending Friday in 5th and 15th respectively.

The sun was high in the sky, causing the 5.2 Km of the Mugello circuit to shine. This gave the fans and riders a day full of excellent conditions from the early hours, ideal temperatures (21°C air / 28°C asphalt) for the Moto3 class riders. After Thursday’s focus on setting up and planning, and of course taking the official 2017 Team Photo with the entire Leopard Racing team, this morning Joan Mir and Livio Loi were down eagerly waiting in pit lane.

The Spaniard and the Belgian behaved themselves, comfortable with their respective Honda NSF 250RWs, closing FP1 in fourth and eighth positions. In the afternoon, the two teammates dedicated the second session to improving their lines and finding the ideal trajectory. Joan Mir has a target on his back leader of the championship, but continued to gravitate in the first positions by improving his times at a steady clip. This saw the Spaniard end the day as the fifth fastest rider overall, on track with the plan the team established. A defective tyre prevented Livio Loi from improving his speed from FP1 which secured him 15th position.

Tomorrow, Saturday June 3rd, the protagonists of the Moto3 class will be engaged in the third and last round of Free Practice, anticipating the official qualifying show. In 2015 at Mugello, Englishman Danny Kent established the Circuit Best Lap: will his successors succeed tomorrow in braking his record?

#36 Joan MIR – 5th (1’58.028)
“I am very happy with today, we have improved with little steps: in fact, in this circuit you cannot just look at the ranking of the times because the biggest improvements come from small moments and areas but also the slipstream. Perhaps the missed “perfect lap”, but today we have devoted much more time to the setup of the bike: tomorrow we will try to push forward on the grid.”

#11 Livio LOI – 15th (1’59.131)
“This morning we had a good start, and the setup has improved much more since Le Mans. In the second session we did a couple of laps with the used tyres and I felt comfortable. But in the last exit I had a problem with the front tyre and I could not push. I’m loaded for tomorrow!”
