news tcr / Second day of free practice for the TCR competitors at Macau
Team Leopard Racing were in action again today at the Macau street circuit, with another free practice session providing a final opportunity to prepare for tomorrow’s qualifying.
Stefano Comini and Jean-Karl Vernay continued with the work they had begun in yesterday’s practice, which focused on fine tuning the set-up of the two Golf GTI TCRs in preparation for Qualifying, as grid positions are so important on this tight track. They ended the session with the third and fourth fastest times respectively.
Once again today, it proved difficult to lap consistently, because of the volume of traffic presented by having 35 cars on track.
The WRT crew, working along with their colleagues from Volkswagen are now going through all the data to give the drivers the best possible car for Qualifying, which promises to be very closely contested and also unpredictable, because of the many variables thrown up by this track.
Weather, sunny and cloudy: air temperature 29, track 32, humidity 65%.
Stefano Comini: 2’34.179 (3rd fastest)
“I’m not that pleased, because the traffic meant I didn’t manage to put in any good laps. We didn’t use new tyres and maybe that’s why I didn’t feel comfortable with our set-up.”
Jean-Karl Vernay: 2’34.252 (4th fastest)
“Not too bad, the car is handling well, but we will need to wait for qualifying to get a real idea of the performance level of the other cars.”
