news tcr / TCR season finale in Macau
The Macau street circuit in China is 6.120 kilometres in length, with some very slow sections and a part that is almost a straight, which is over one kilometre long.
Today, the Leopard Racing drivers tackled the first 30 minutes free practice session, using the time to work on the car set-up. During this first session, grip level on the track was poor.
Apart from a red flag in the first minutes, the rest of the session went off in a more or less normal fashion, although a few yellow flags meant the drivers were unable to string together many laps at a time. Jean-Karl Vernay set the fourth fastest time, one place higher on the time sheet than team-mate Stefano Comini.
Weather: sunny, air temperature 30°C, track 34°C, humidity 65%.
Jean-Karl Vernay: 4th – 2’35.379
“A complicated and difficult track. The poor track conditions and the large number of cars out on the circuit make it difficult to put together a perfect lap. This first test went reasonably well, although you really have to concentrate to set fast times straight away.”
Stefano Comini: 5th – 2’35.461
“Macau is a circuit where, even if you have driven it before, it always seems like your first time. You never know what to expect from the track conditions, while the many cars on the circuit lead to inevitable yellow flags, which make it difficult to put in a perfect lap. But that’s how it is and you just have to be prepared for all these variables.”
