moto3 / To Phillip Island to close the games

The MotoGP circus arrives at the charming Australian track that exactly two years ago saw Joan Mir debut in the World Championship.

The Moto3 World Championship is facing the second stage of the ‘triple header’ by moving to Oceania and the Phillip Island track. A historic circuit (the first motorcycle race dates back to 1931), which winds up for 4.4km, and since 1997 has uninterruptedly hosted the Australia Grand Prix event.

For Joan Mir, this fascinating circuit is a special reminder: right here, the 20-year-old Mallorca made his debut in the World Championship in 2015 as a replacement rider qualifying 18th on the grid but being involuntarily involved in an accident when he was charging to the Top Five and a potential podium. The Spanish talent, leader of the Moto3 Championship with a 55-point advantage over his rivals, has the second match-point available for closing the 2017 world title.

His team-mate Livio Loi can’t wait to be back out on track: 20-year-old from Hasselt wants to leave behind the problems encountered during the Japanese weekend and to give his best in Australia, perhaps improving his 2016 result when he closed in Top Five.
