moto2 / Top 10 for Kent in Cheste, Oliveira just misses Rookie title

A positive and intense competition that was staged today at the Ricard Tormo circuit at Cheste for the last race of the season. The two riders of the Leopard Racing team excelled in the 27 laps for the intermediate class both in the points.

Having started from eighth place after his best qualifying of the year (along with that of Rio Hondo in Argentina) Danny Kent lost a couple of positions at the start, but then held his pace and was able to fight well inside the top ten.

The Brit kept his cool, knowing to take advantage of situations which would arise in the race for the and crossed the finish line in ninth place. The results have raised him in the standings to 22nd, with 35 points, just one behind his teammate Miguel Oliveira.

The Portuguese talent fought like a lion, giving his best today upon returning after 4 races out due to injury. Oliveira was able to bite the bullet in the face of a lack of feeling with the front tyre, which unfortunately dropped off significantly in the second half of the rac,e leaving him no chance to fight on equal terms with the rival Vierge.

The Spaniard crossed the line seven tenths ahead of Stefan Kiefer team rider, winning the Rookie of the Year by only 1 point. The Leopard Racing Team remain honoured to have had Miguel Oliveira in their team and wish him all the best in the future.

#52 Danny KENT – 9th:
“I think we can be happy with this result. It’s not our best result of the year but it’s been one of our best weekends and a big thank you to the team. We made some changes and you can see from the results that the changes were for the best. Unfortunately it was a little too late in the last race. I’m happy. Not we can go into the winter happier but I need to keep working on my fitness to come into 2017 stronger than ever.”

#44 Miguel OLIVEIRA – 13th:
“It was a really long race! Probably I blamed the fact of being so far back for pushing so hard at the start. It was difficult to come back with the high pace. In the first laps I did not have much feeling with the front, then the grip worsened the situation and prevented me from getting traction out of the corners. I could not be sufficiently close to the rider in front of me: a shame to lose the title of Rookie of the Year in this way; moreover, I was forced to miss four races and I could not do more.”
