tcr / Vernay scores second row in Chang International Circuit qualifying
The TCR International Series championship leader will start from 4th on the grid in Thailand; 16th place for Leopard Racing WRT’s teammate Rob Huff.
At the end of one of the most thrilling qualifying sessions of the season, Mat’o Homola of the DG Sport Compétition Opel team claimed today at the Chang International Circuit his third pole of the year ahead of James Nash, Norbert Michelisz and Leopard Racing WRT’s Jean-Karl Vernay.
The Frenchman, current championship leader of the TCR International Series, has been one of the fastest drivers on the Thai track in every session and spent most of the morning free practice at the top of the timesheets. Teammate Rob Huff was affected by some issues and will start from row-8 of the grid.
Local favourite Kantadhee Kusiri claimed a brilliant 8th while Aurélien Panis qualified 10th to secure pole position on the reverse grid for Race-2 alongside Stefano Comini.
“It was a good run. We made a late change and it worked pretty well. I’m happy with the car and we are now working on ways in which we can improve it a little more. We were on old tyres and I’m pretty sure some of the guys used new tyres, but nobody really cares about Free Practice and the games really start now! I just have to drive 100% and we should be okay. Sometimes we see some surprises in Qualifying from Alfa and the Opel, but my target is to be up front. The main contenders are Honda and they have three cars but we have done a good job until now and we have to continue.”
